BootyQueen Apparel Update

  • Entrepreneur: Amanda and Steve Kuclo
  • Business: Comfortable, form-fitting fitness apparel
  • Ask: $250,000 for 20% equity
  • Result: $250,000 for 33.3% equity
  • Shark: Daymond John

Before starting BootyQueen Apparel, Amanda Kuclo had already won several competitions and was heavily involved in fitness. Both Amanda and her husband, Steve, had built up a brand on social media. Amanda, in particular, was famous for her selfies prominently featuring her butt. After their initial foray into fitness sold out quickly, the two decided to start BootyQueen Apparel, which eventually landed them on Shark Tank.

According to Amanda and Steve, they were well aware that their clothing line was not special—they’re selling a brand. Kevin O’Leary was quick to agree with this. Meanwhile, Lori Greiner took things a step further and encouraged the couple to trademark “booty.”

Unfortunately, despite agreeing with Amanda and Steve, Kevin just found the space too competitive and went out. Mark Cuban and Robert Herjavec followed as well because they did not understand how the brand worked. Lori also went out as well, saying that the two should have spent more time building out their brand first.

Thankfully, Daymond John, the only shark left, went ahead and made them an offer. Daymond offered $250,000 for 33.3%, which they countered at 25% and then at 27.5%. After Daymond held firm at 33.3% both times, the two accepted the deal and walked out with a shark in tow.

It’s been several years since Amanda and Steve got a deal on Shark Tank. In doing our research for our BootyQueen Apparel update, we found that the company’s website is no longer available. Additionally, BootyQueen Apparel’s several social media sites haven’t been updated in a while.
